This is a proposed nerf to my character that would hopefully reduce ambiguity on both sides. Currently, Maypul can throw a seed with neutral special while holding a seed item, and she’ll continue to hold the seed item. This creates ambiguity for the opponent whether she’s holding the seed or not, and, depending on how fast the Maypul player is inputting and against what mental stack they’re playing, can create ambiguity for the Maypul about whether they’ve thrown the held seed or a neutral special seed (the animation is very similar).
My proposal is to make the moves function like the Belmonts’ down special in Smash Ultimate. The way this move works is that if the character is holding specifically their Holy Water item, they’ll simply throw the it like they were performing the move with nothing in their hands, clearing the item out and performing the move as normal. My suggestion for Maypul is the same thing. When she’s holding a seed and presses neutral special, she does the neutral special animation, despawns the seed she’s holding, and throws a new seed, albeit with the knockback properties of the in-hand seed attached to it. These have roughly the same frame data, so it shouldn’t provide any undue advantage to throw it like this over using the normal throw, save for maybe some wavebounce shenanigans, but I think losing the upward and downward toss angles makes up for that potential buff.
I am aware this change will make Maypul objectively worse by reducing her options and making her neutral less ambiguous, but I am okay with that if it makes the game more legible for everyone else.
