The La Reina nerfs this patch made me think about something that very likely needs to be addressed:
Recovery nerfs are fine. La Reina’s feel a bit heavy-handed and honestly unfair, and I don’t even play the character. Etalus’ felt similarly unfair, given his weak horizontal aerial drift and the egregious generosity of the ledge invuln time granted to those battling him off stage.
I think there’s a problem with nerfing SOME recoveries so heavy-handedly while leaving others untouched in that same vein, all the while allowing one to gain Ledge Invuln three times while off-stage.
I’m not a designer, so I’m pitching this:
Drop max ledge regrab for invuln refresh from 2 to 1, or even 0 (you must retouch stage to have invuln on ledge grab).
Global Mechanic: Diminishing returns on ALL recovery move distances (including Side Specials) when used off stage multiple times without touching the ground, ala Etalus.
Thoughts?

I don’t think La Reina’s recovery nerfs are unfair, but I don’t see why diminishing returns on recovery options isn’t a universal mechanic in the game. I think it is ok for some characters to have better options when it comes to recovering and making multiple attempts at recovering from disadvantage, but the disparity in what different characters can get away with if they tech perfectly or stall long enough is a problem IMO.
I do think that being able to refresh invulnerability makes sense, at least once, but I’d love to see more targetted nerfs at invulnerability times when it is being abused by someone already in advantage. For example, why can’t we nerf the duration of invulnerability or the number of refreshes on the ledge if the player wavedashed or moonwalked from the stage for it?
I don’t think there is an easy answer, but I think there are better options than what is available.
