La Reina has an uncharacteristically strong recovery for her character archetype which is entirely enabled by her chair. Her down special allowing her to launch towards a chair already onstage is fine as it required previous setup and has clear counterplay from the opponent by knocking the chair offstage. However, La Reina doesn’t even need the chair onstage for her recovery to be strong. Summoning the chair allows her to use a combination of up air, down special and side special to both stall offstage and cover a large amount of distance. Removing this skill expression entirely wouldn’t be in good taste but I think it should have limits. Hence the one chair summon per airtime. In her current state good La Reina players don’t run out of resources offstage. Unless she’s sent directly into the blastzone the chair allows her to make it back to any wall that isn’t Hyperborean Harbour. A grappler having a good recovery with the appropriate setup isn’t something I want taken away but the opponent should be rewarded more for disrupting said setup offstage than they currently are. Additionally, in previous patches characters like Orcane, Forsburn and Ranno had nerfs to repeated resource gain offstage so La Reina now having it doesn’t feel in line with the games balance direction.

I wonder if adding a staling effect to her downB chair summon stall would be enough to prevent the minute long edgeguards that can happen against her. It could even add required alternative recovery paths to increase character depth while at the same time nerfing her recovery.

La Reina used to go into freefall if she used the offstage platform summon more then once (that’s why the second one is a table). You could walljump out of the freefall, too, and if you landed an up special from high enough, the impact on landing offstage would launch La Reina high enough to land back on stage. I miss that

Exhibit A, Exhibit B
I love La Reina, I love playing La Reina, but this and the uair DI trap of death are absolutely degenerate

Is the bad recovery in the room with us right now?

@FKite294 there were at least 4 opportunities for the la Reina to die including just throwing needles.

It doesn’t make 30 seconds rinse repeat recovery sequence look any insteresting to watch or engaging for either player
Thanks to Dan et al. for changing this :D
