Another Post about Ranked Elo gaps#640

I could not find a current post for this so I post it again. But I saw it in the past.
I believe Dan said in a Dev Stream (1 or 2 months ago) that a gap of 300+ points is a bug or something?

We should send proof if I remember correctly…so…here is my proof.

This is not a bug. You can find anyone within +/- 1 rank of you. In Diamond, this means you can find anyone in Platinum, Diamond, or Master. However, when searching for an opponent, it starts with a smaller range and expands slowly, so during the more active hours of the day you usually won’t find someone more than 150-200 rating away from you.

but this means worst case scenario is a 399 point difference. thats complete insanity and a waste of your players time. Also i often get those +/- ~300 point matches at prime time after a 10-20 second search window. And i am not at a particulary high rank at the moment. I picked up a new char recently and hover around 1100 elo. so i should be in a very populated elo range, yet MM gives me several ~300 matches pretty often.

I don’t feel that it’s increasing slowly tbh.-.
For me it feels kind of random and I don’t even search for that long.

This one was an extreme case, yes, but it feels like the wild west even if you find a match instantly.

This “issue” occurs more often since Slade released. At least for me.
Before Slade it was mostly like 200~ but never 300++

yeah, i also agree with the “wild west” sentiment. i search for seconds and get 300+ next time it will search for 1 min and give me someone +/-20 it feels like its completely random in that two rank range.
Also back on that topic: if its +/- one whole rank that means your opponents can some from a span of 600 elo points. this is completely crazy.

having a nearly non existant match making because the elo gap is so big and then just quitting whenever we like making our own ranking irrelevant sounds like another mode we already have ;-)
