
In January this change was introduced.
“Attacks that send below horizontal will now have an increased maximum DI angle.
When the knockback angle is more than 20 degrees below horizontal, the maximum DI angle will be increased by 6 degrees.”
It had some good effects, one that was mentioned was that some very strong 270 degree spikes like Loxodont stomp, kragg dair, zetter dair, etc wouldn’t kill as early offstage because the opponent would have more agency to DI toward the wall and tech. Gravity acting on the opponent was not providing the opponent with as much ability to change their angle as they would on a 90 degree hit.
Those 270 degree spikes were designed around being able to DI full right or full left and influence your angle.
On some other moves like Forsburn Dair, Galvan Dair and Clairen Dair, they spike at 285 which was specifically chosen so that the full DI in gave ~3 degrees of inward angle to reach the wall but if you weren’t very close to the wall, you wouldn’t be able to tech the hit. To not kill too early, those spikes are much weaker than 270 degree spikes and balanced around that. With this change, the 285 degree spikes can be DId into the wall from much further away. Clairen late dair is also a 290 degree spike which seems to have been chosen so that you need to be either touching the wall or SSDI into the wall because DI alone wont let you reach the wall. It was balanced around this, allowing it to kill the opponent who isn’t on the wall at sufficient percents. With this change, it lost that ability and isnt differentiated very much from Clairen early dair.
These clips are not the best examples but show Clairen early dair functioning more like a 270 degree spike than a 285 degree spikes.
