I think the most interesting part of his kit is how he’s a sort of modular stance fighter who changes in many ways throughout the match. However, a sentiment I’ve seen a lot from those with early access has been that the opportunity cost of not going for wing (or sometimes hookshot depending on the matchup) is too great to use his money in more interesting ways.
While this could be alleviated by making his run speed faster, so he does not gain as much proportionally from wing wavedash, I think a better way to diversify his game plan is to let him refund the upgrades he gets. Not fully, but a good portion of the money spent.
This would let Slade be able to use the cheaper, less important upgrades while he still builds some money, then sell them off when he’s ready for something better, while still allowing him to stack the upgrades together when he gets the chance. So the “optimal” game plan could be to take the dair upgrade for a little bit, then sell it and swap to the hookshot when you get the chance, then sell that and swap to the wing when you get the chance, and then you could even later sell and swap back to the hookshot in a last hit situation to try and get a kill with your grab game.
I think this would greatly diversify the viable playstyles of playing Slade, make those viable playstyles more interesting, and would not be too strong (as long as any individual item isn’t too strong, which they shouldn’t be anyway to avoid being frustrating to play against when he’s finally able to get them).
I could see some prices being increased if this route is taken, though since he’d only be getting back a portion of the upgrade costs I don’t think it’d have to be too much. I would also hope that a player who would want to rush a certain upgrade or not want to swap out upgrades would still have a chance at making their preferred style work, though if it comes down between this swapping throughout a match style or the more singular upgrade focused style, I think this way would make for much more interesting matches for the Slade player, the opponent, and viewers.

Also I suppose I should give a suggestion for how this could work- just the same as selecting the item to buy it. So when I have the dair upgrade and want to sell it, I just go to the shop and select the grayed out icon for it to sell

very interesting!
would definetly make the way u play him more creative
