Steam machine gamecube controller support#1161

I am trying to use the Steam Machine for locals and it works great except gamecube adapters are not being recognized. I looked into it and there seems to be a workaround which involves installing some drivers, but I am wondering if it would be possible to get it working without all these extra steps as with Windows.
