Floorhug is not a fun mechanic#1062

I gotta just keep it brief and right to the point. I know how to use it and play against it, but it’s just SO LAME. I don’t enjoy interracting with it even when I’m on the winning side of the interaction. I also don’t see any universe where the concept can be executed in a way that is fun. Please just get rid of it, honestly. It’s just an detriment to the new player experience and continuous source of obnoxious interractions.

There’s a post about floorhugging with ~60 votes (high-ish for this board). If the devs were gonna respond to floorhugging posts they would have responded there, I’d imagine.

So I conclude either:

• They have plans for floorhugging updates already and are waiting until they are finalized or something. This is somewhat unlikely as I don’t know why they wouldn’t say something. Not impossible however.
• They are tired of litigating this and have adopted a strategy of simply ignoring the complaints. This is likely but, as I’ve said elsewhere, a “not planned” or a “Guys shut up, floorhugging is here to stay and we have no intentions of changing it” would be appreciated. Save me the money of continuing to buy skins hoping for a game that will never come.
• They agree it’s a problem but don’t have a solution and are buying time by not saying anything. There’s little value then to relitigating it. Keeping everyone in limbo is a decent strategy.

So… No matter which of these is the case… We shout into the void now it seems.

I think floorhug is very fun and would like it to stay

It might be fun to hold down and mindlessly mash buttons in a party game, but this was meant to be a competitive platform-fighter. Fighting games simply might not be for you if you think floorhug is fun.

For those of us not terminally online, what makes what I said qualify as “reddit edge”? I wouldn’t say it was edgy in any regard, and I’m not sure what Reddit has to do with it. Feels like you’re just lashing out a bit because you don’t have a genuine argument in favour of FH. You guys must be extremely thin-skinned if you can’t handle having a game you play be likened to a party game.

I mean, play literally any other fighting game and you won’t find anything remotely close to what FH is lmao. Claiming to like it so much just indicates to me that you don’t quite understand the genre enough, appreciate why it’s so detrimental to Rivals 2, and why it would never exist in other games. You know something’s wrong with it when other plat-fighters have had a general “No CC or FH in this game” statement made by their devs.

What’s hilarious to me is that after all this time, FH defenders keep missing the point entirely and still can’t come up with a logical reason why it needs to stay. You’re allowed to like it, more power to you if you can tolerate it, but you have to be delusional to be unable to see that it’s nothing more than a massive detriment to the longevity and competitive integrity of the game.
